History of Champaign County: William Lary, p.545: "William LARY, born in 1800; came to Ohio in 1826, and the same year settled in the northeast part of the township [WayneTwp], near the present residence of Sylvester Spain. The land was owned by his cousin, Thomas LARY, and, in 1829, was sold for $1 an acre. Mr. Lary moved with his family, in 1829, to the Peppermill, in Salem Township. Afterward he again became a citizen of Wayne, and lived for thirteen years on the Camby farm, now owned by John Tehan, in Mingo Valley. In 1843, he bought fifty acres of land of Reese Miller, southwest of what was then Mead's Mill, near the Big Spring. Here he resided until the year 1864, when he died, aged sixty-four years. He had seven sons. Of these, John H., James M., and Ira W. are well-known citizens of the township; the others are non-residents. He had two daughters--Martha died in Mingo in 1879; the other married George Allen, and is a resident of Middletown." Tommy Larry's daughter Sarah was said to be half Cherokee. I am trying to verify whether or not her father, Tommy Larry was full blooded Cherokee. Could there be a family connection?" -Judy Weinberg for David Willis (weinberg atsign nebula.ispace.com) - - - - - "I've been researching the family of my Great Grandmother Lizzie Bell Sheward Moody Martin b. 1881, and I have part of an old letter that she received about 1940 from her 2nd cousin Minnie Lamar Swisher Bowers who lived in Champaign County, Ohio. In the letter, Minnie wrote that lizzie's grandparents were James Sheward and Elizabeth Swisher Sheward from Champaign Co., Ohio. Here is where it gets interesting: Minnie writes that this Elizabeth Swisher's parents were James Swisher and Julian Zedeker Swisher. Acording to Minnie, this Julian was born in PA on 2-4-1805 and married James Swisher 8-30-1821. James died on 12-20-1849 in Cable, Champaign County, OH and Julian married a second time -- William Lary on 12-16-1850. Minnie also wrote that Julian Zedeker Swisher Lary is buried at Jenkin's Chapel cemetery in Champaign County, Oh. Also, I found widowed Julian Swisher (just months before her marriage to William Lary) in the 1850 Champaign County, OH census with a Mary A. Swisher, 16. Then I found them in the 1860 census with Julian Swisher married to William Lary and, I think it is possible that Julian's daughter Mary A. Swisher married Abraham Lary." In Champaign Co., Ohio Marriage Index Sh-Z I found a July Ann Swisher marriage to a William Lary for Dec. 16, 1850. According to family information, Julian Zediker Swisher Lary is buried at Jenkins Chapel, Cable, Ohio. 1850 US Census for Champaign County, Ohio, Wayne Twp.: 49/50, Julianna Swisher, 45, f, 1000, born Penn.
