Letter of family history: The Brewer family originally came from France. They were among the first settlers of Annapolis, Maryland. I do not know what year this was nor do I know just how many there were of them, neither do I know their names. But I do know that Thomas Brewer of Annapolis was one of the first admirals of the U.S. Navy. His wife was a Hill (Hull) of Alexandria, Va. After this, some of the family came farther west and settled in Shenandoah Valley in Va. Our great grandfather Lewis Brewer was a captain in the War of 1812. His wife's name was Rollins. He was married at the age of forty years--his wife has sixteen. To this union five children were born: Lewis, George, John, Helmsley, and Ann. Lewis, our grandfather, married Margaret Schumaker. They were the parents of four children: Edward 1852, Martha, Sarah, and Lewis. They came to Ohio from Louden County, Va., about the year 1858. [But, Lewis was born abt 1861 in VA according to census.] They first lived in Franklin Co. then they came to Union Co, about 1871. Edward Benjamin was married to Mary A. Carter, daughter of Chas. Carter a descendent of Israel Carter one of the early settlers of Liberty Twp., Union Co. They were the parents of nine children, one dying in infancy. Martha married George Patton. Lewis was married twice--neither of these famililes had any children. Sarah became the wife of C. W. Argo and to them three children were born, all of them living in Planes, Mon. George Brewer married a Stream. They were the parents of six children: Jennie, Katie, Emma, Martha, Anna, and John. Jennie came to Ohio with her Uncle Lewis and made her home with him until she married Jerry Shirley. They were the parents of eight children, five of them living. Katie joined her Uncle Lewis' family in Ohio in her young womanhood until she married Ebb Jones. They are the parents of three children. Emma lived in Louden Co. Va. with her grandparents until she married Geo. Elbert. They were the parents of 12 children, 8 living. John served 4 years in the white Calvery. Ann married a Rinker and had 5 children. John Brewer was never married and was a confederate officer in Civil War and is buried in the confed. cemetery at Fredricksburg Maryland. Helmsley ran away from home when a young boy and went to sea. He was never heard from. Other not-yet-connected Bruerds in the area: 1 BRUERD Charles. + ??? Virginia. I know some of the dates are wrong and Margaret is listed as Margaret Buren. Because of the church record I thought it might be the same Margaret. What do you think? By 1860 Samuel and Elizabeth (Morgan) Winegarner were living in Brown Twp. of Franklin Co., OH. In 1864 they left and went to Marion Co., IL. Samuel and Elizabeth are my husband Harold.s great-great grandparents. Your Eliza Morgan is mentioned on page 357 of "SHOEMAKER PIONEERS". I have a copy of said book in my possesion. Following is an excerpt: {Daniel Shoemaker, the youngest son of George the immigrant married Priscilla Purdum in 1802 and died in Loudoun co., about 1824. Priscilla died on feb 17, 1861 at age 80 in Loudoun co. Their children were:-Maria, Margaret, George, Josiah, Eliza,Elizabeth, and possibly a son who died without children prior to 1869. Maria died unmarried , probably 1869, and her estate was divided among her five brothers and sisters,or their heirs. These were:-(1) Margaret Buren; (2) George Shoemaker, (3) Children of Josiah Shoemaker, deceased, (William B., George J., Sarah P., Elizabeth, and Mary Shoemaker).; (4) Eliza Morgan, deceased (children:- Eliza, and George Morgan); and (5) Elizabeth Virts, deceased (children:-Daniel Virts, Isaiah Virts, Jane P. Demary, Elizabeth Baker, and childrenof Margaret Hunter, deceased:-Margaret E., Virginia D., and Mary W.). Eliza married Philip Morgan in 1822 and had a son, George W., who was of Licking County , OH in 1850. At this time the other children of Daniel and Priscilla were still in Loudoun Co., VA. Josiah, a carpenter by trade, was born about 1812 and married Amanda Titus in Loudoun Co., May 1, 1856. Josiah died January 7, 1865. Maria was born about 1815 and Margaret about 1824. George Shoemaker was born about 1823 and married Sarah Grubb, pre 1848. Their children were:- (1)John, born 1848, died young; (2) Joseph, married and had children; (3) Frank, died without issue;(4) Alice May Florella married Stephen Henry Conard; and (5) Edward, never married. lizabeth Shoemaker married Michael Virts (or Virtz) in Frederick Co., Md on May 10, 1836. See also Loudoun County Deed, year, 1850.} The above was taken from the chapter on the Loudoun Co. Shoemakers. I am descended from the George, the immigrants brother, Jacob. (I think she means she is descended from George's brother, Jacob.) ----------------------------------------------------------------------- - The above info is from http://violetsky.com/roots
