I need to get a letter off to her. Conclusion: I believe our Bergandines are from the Spring Hill District, near Staunton, Augusta Co., VA. There are also Burgandines in Culpeper, VA who are probably related. The oldest house there is called The Burgandine House. Unable to connect modern Culpeper family with older Augusta family. Oldest name in Culpeper is John Otis Burgandine, Spanish American War veteran. He m. Bessie Jefferson Courtney. There is also a John Bergandine in Bedford Co., VA per 1820 census index.
